General Skills Migration - Visa 175
Applicants can apply independently or through state sponsorship or family nomination. Some graduates from Australian education institutions may also apply for permanent residence.
Due to the high demand for GSM applications, the government is holding a review of the Points Test. The new Standard Occupations List is based on the ANZSCO table. You occupation must be on the Skilled Occupations List in order to make an application for the General Skills Migration.

All applicants must have a skills assessment to show that they meet the minimum Australian standards for their profession unless you are following the graduate path (2 years study in Australia) or are being nominated by your Australian employer after 2 years of Australian work experience.
In order to apply for permanent residence you must meet the following conditions.
- You MUST be under 45 years of age at the time of application.
- You will be required to meet minimum English standards (IELTS 6.0 for all professions)
- You will need to satisfy the Points Test.
- You must completed a Skills Assessment for your nominated occupation.
Priority processing is currently in place for some types of skilled migrant applications so applicants should be prepared for long delays in processing if they are not sponsored. We strongly recommend advice before applying.
